Timeframe 2018 - 2027
Federal Street is the most aspirational project in Auckland – a transformational development that will propel the city into the future. ICD Property worked hand-in-glove with Auckland City Council, the local community and investors on the design to deliver a landmark all of New Zealand can be proud of.
Designed by globally renowned architects Woods Bagot, in partnership with local New Zealand firm Peddle Thorp, Federal Street is set to become a sleek 55-level tower that will stand around 183m high. Comprising 357 residential apartments and a 1,000sqm ground floor marketplace designed to activate the Auckland CBD streetscape and serve as a community space.
“It will be a landmark for the city and provides much needed residential and hotel accommodation. It is a huge investment, which is a statement of investor confidence in Auckland. It will provide hundreds of jobs during and beyond construction.”
— Phil Goff, Mayor of Auckland
Resource consent was granted for the tower under the COVID-19 Recovery (Fast Track Consenting) Act 2020 following an extensive consultation period with Auckland City Council and mana whenua. Although complex, the planning outcome is industry-leading. What has now been approved goes far beyond the typical set boundaries for plot ratio and height restrictions. It is an exemplary example of collaboration and sets a new precedent for all future developments in Auckland going forward. The aspirational design, thinking and consultation that went into the project is a blueprint for better urban design outcomes not only for New Zealand but buildings and communities globally.
Intended to become a ‘building for the people’, the ground floor specifically will significantly contribute to the streetscape in the form of a local market place with everything from local vendors selling produce through to eateries and bars.
As ICD Property’s first international acquisition, the project marks a significant milestone for the company.
