ICD Property Signs Innovative Childcare Operator HEI Schools to $400m Market Square Project

ICD Property and the City of Adelaide’s $400m Market Square development will soon be home to a state-of-the-art childcare centre modelled off one of the world’s best education systems.

Further enhancing Market Square’s unrivalled lifestyle, this major milestone will see Finnish-style childcare operators HEI Schools join Market Square under a 10-year lease, making the exciting destination its first South Australian flagstaff location. HEI Schools is scheduled to open at Market Square in 2025, catering for approximately 66 children.

The Finnish early education model is centred around ‘creative play’ with a focus on health and emotional wellbeing, empowering children to ask questions and encouraging active participation. As well as delivering Finnish-style curriculum, HEI schools is distinctly unique as it provides a strong thematic link back to the Nordic heritage of everyday functional design through the implementation of soft, natural materials, neutral colour palettes and natural light aimed at calming and focusing children.

Created in collaboration with Finnish architects, furniture designers and pedagogical experts, the HEI Schools concept takes the best of Finnish design and teaching research to give children a learning environment that promotes their learning and well-being.

City of Adelaide Lord Mayor, Sandy Verschoor, said the childcare centre will help make Adelaide more liveable and accessible and allow for future growth.

“The new, innovative childcare centre will be an integral element of Market Square and we cannot wait to see how this exciting project will help shape our city for generations to come,” the Lord Mayor said. Having a childcare centre of this calibre in the Market Square precinct not only provides an incredibly rich amenity for office workers within the commercial tower and residents from the apartments but also traders in the soon-to-be expanded Adelaide Central Market.

Market Square is a proud partnership project between ICD Property and the City of Adelaide, seeing the transformation of the iconic Adelaide Central Market into a newly upgraded sustainable, vibrant, and mixed-used precinct. Since Market Square’s launch, 96% of apartments have been sold, in which 80% of apartments sold within their first few weeks of launching.

HEI Schools signing on to join Market Square marks the first of many exciting announcements still to come.

Demolition and enabling works began on site at Market Square in late June 2022 and will continue into 2023.
